For centuries, Rold Forest was notorious for its bands of robbers, who made travel through the woods a dangerous challenge. On the Robber’s Route, hikers pass by Røverstuen, a large sinkhole that once served as a hideout for the robbers. The trail leads through the southern part of Rold Forest and starts at Stabelpladsen and Sortemosehus on the edge of Arden. The first stretch follows the idyllic Lovers’ Path along the forest edge before reaching Roldvej, which is part of the historic Hærvej. From here, the route continues through beautiful old beech forest until it reaches Røverstuen and the even larger sinkhole known as Hestegraven. The highlight on the way back towards Arden is Hvass Sø, a little gem of a forest lake, surrounded by many exotic trees. It is recommended to walk the route clockwise.

Sharp Lake
Hvass Lake is a little gem in Rold Forest, surrounded by tall trees and a tranquil atmosphere. By the lake's edge, you'll find a fire hut that can be freely used, as well as tables and benches with a view of the shimmering water. It's an ideal spot for a break on a hike, where you can enjoy both your packed lunch and the silence of nature. The lake's surroundings invite peace, contemplation, and cozy moments under the open sky.

Sortemose House
Sortemosehus is a former forest ranger's property that today serves as a vibrant activity center in the middle of Rold Forest. Here you will find a Hærvej hostel, a shelter site, and a public toilet; ideal as a resting place on your hike or bike ride. The place is a natural gathering point where you can stay overnight close to the tranquility of the forest or simply enjoy a break under the open sky. With its location right by the Hærvej, Sortemosehus is both a practical stop and a part of the experience in itself.

The stable yard
The stable yard in Arden is a natural gathering point and the gateway to Rold Forest. It offers a lovely nature playground, camp and shelter area, as well as a fire pit which is perfect for both families and hikers. The site has a large parking area and toilet facilities, and through the forest trails, you can go on trips to places like Hvass Lake and the Robber's Inn. Surrounded by forest, peace, and opportunities for nature experiences, the stable yard is both practical and atmospheric as a starting point for your excursions.
