You start your journey right on the edge of the dramatic landscape created in the Ice Age with Dollerup Hills to the east and flat heaths to the west. Along the route, you walk in the footsteps of those who were here before you. Among other things, you can see old hollow roads, castle ruins, burial mounds, and much more over the 11 kilometers.

Stendal Plantation
West of Hærvejen in Silkeborg lies Stendal Plantation, which is part of Alheden Forest. Stendal is a prominent valley along the northwest side of Stendal Plantation. Along the sides of the valley, you can see several beautiful hollow roads that lead to the valley. At the point where the hiking trail turns southwest to follow the valley, there are remnants of paved hollow roads.
The plantation offers an ideal opportunity for camping. You are free to pitch your tent anywhere in the forest within the rules of free camping. There is also the possibility of staying in shelters, which are available along the regional hiking trail of Hærvejen.
The campsite in Stendal Plantation is located in a hilly terrain, where the Jutland ridge meets the former Alhede, surrounded by lush forest.

Ulvedal Plantation
In the beautiful Ulvedal Plantation, where the hiking trail turns south, you can experience several historical hollow ways.
In the southwestern corner of the plantation, you will find a well-preserved long barrow from the late Stone Age, known as Jens Langkniv's Cave. The impressive long barrow, which is 40 meters long and contains two chambers, has survived for 4000 years and is named after the legendary Jens Langkniv, whom Steen Steensen Blicher's poetry describes.
